PARAKLETOS

I was sitting in a coffee shop last month filling out an application to work at a wilderness camp in Montana when the Lord told me to put the pen down and write an email asking some friends in Shumen, Bulgaria if they needed help this summer - and I did. Little did I know, that one email triggered a sequence of events that is beginning to change me from the core.

I will be moving to Shumen on May 16th and living there for three months discipling women, helping out a beloved family, sharing the gospel, and allowing the Lord to move me where He will. Bobby Stephanov is the father of that family I will be living with. One day I asked him for a job description and I was expecting something more general and employee like. But he gave me this word: Parakletos. It means "to come along side" in Greek.

I never expected my life to boil down to "coming along side" anyone or anything. As a matter of fact, my biggest fear in life is that I will be useless. God has taught me so much about the usefulness of uselessness in His Kingdom. If I am useless, He can finally begin to use me. Helpless and useless...parakletos. Here comes useless and the most useful thing anyone could ever hope for.

Lord, render me useless so I can become useful this summer. I cannot do anything without you. I cannot encourage, I cannot share, I cannot love. Render me useless so you accomplish much.
